The Central Building Authority is a Statutory Body, whose mandate is to regulate, and enforce the Belize Building Act.
What We Do

We review building plans for safety, structural stability, and constructability;

We issue permits for construction;

We monitor and enforce construction regulations;

We conduct inspections and site visits to ensure compliance with regulations;

We provide technical support and guidance in order to facilitate the continuation of construction within the country.
The CBA consists of a Board of Directors, the Director, an Office Administrator, and Building Inspectors and Support Staff. The Board of Directors consists of eleven members, nine members from different Government Departments, and two representatives from the private sector as stated according to the BELIZE BUILDING ACT Chapter 131, Revised Edition 2020, and Section 4 subsection (2). The Director could be either a Registered Professional Architect (APAB) or Civil or Structural Engineer (APEB) and is responsible to the Authority for the administration and operation of the Belize Building Act. The Building Inspector (Appointed under Section 11 of the Belize Building Act, Chapter 131, Revised Edition 2020). Building Inspector who may be an Engineering, Architectural or Construction Technician. The Building Inspector shall carry out duties such as reviewing plans and other documentation submitted in support of an application for a building permit, and inspecting construction to determine compliance with the terms of the building permit and undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
